Does anyone have any recommendations for an instructional video pool?
I've been searching the net and there are jillions of them. Kinda had his eye to Briesath Jerry's "How to Play Pool Right". I can afford to buy one, but do not want to buy hundreds of them, if they are above me or below me. I realized that this is the only one approved by the BCA (is that anything worthwhile?). I need to polish my technique and developing some shots of good practice. Talentwise ….. I used to be able to run the table from time to time in 8 or 9 balls, but not very often. I was "decent" but not going to win the leagues or play seriously. I do not want a video that says, "OK, here's the table, there are 15 balls, this is a signal 18 oz, this is a mark of 21 oz ….." Need something of substance. I read books Byrne 2 room many times and understand the physics of the pool. Yes, I would love to have a person-to-person lesson (s) but I have 2 small children, run a big ranch, and live in the middle of nowhere Kansas about 100 miles from a major city. This is what I can do.
If you have not mentioned, I was going to suggest Briesath Jerry's "How to Play Pool Right". Jerry is a master instructor BCA, 1 of 9 in the world today. I have spoken Jerry (both are from WI) before and I work with another teacher BCA instructor, Bob Radford (who also is from Kansas) and his wife, Linda, who will soon become a teacher BCA instructor. Adoption of BCA includes a large amount of weight. The curriculum is set by the BCA, but the main lessons remain consistent. I agree with 95% of everything that Jerry teaches in his video. You know, people travel from around the world to attend Class Bob Radford in Rockford, IL. Otherwise, there is another training academy BCA in Dallas, TX. Maybe I should do a little vacation out of it. We get students from California, Florida, New York, so I know it can be difficult to escape. Check out the websites that I will list for some ideas. The time is upon us, parents, teachers and caregivers. Our challenge is to maintain the charm of the troops happy. Most of us know that there is a likely reduction cognitive development in our children during the summers, if the traditional school setting. In fact, the latest report by a professor at Duke University says the Most children lose roughly the equivalent of a month of learning during the summer time – losing a lot of math and reading.
What is a parent to do? Our vision of a perfect summer for our children involves the hope of creating memories with the great family of all family vacation, relaxation combined with rejuvenation of children and parents to defend not to mention the increasingly famous daily statements from the boredom and the inability to find something to do.
What is a boy to do? His vision of a perfect summer for them is the hope of sleep, have fun and fun only, not to mention to defend themselves from any task related to learning, activity, book or program.
I play both sides of the fence when it comes to summer. Having spent over ten years in the classroom that truly enjoyed the countdown to the summer. I loved my students, but I loved my summers off as equals. Having been a mother for over seventeen years that truly enjoy the countdown to the end of summer! I love my children, but I love the regular routine and school year calendar that gives our family.
The following goodies come from both sides of the fence and combined to create burning for some time the small sponge-like brains to absorb knowledge and keep their brains active during the dog days of summer.
* Read! Read! Read! I know! You are busy – do not even have time to read the business section of the newspaper every morning, much less plunk down on the floor with 5 and Junior to read a book fresco that has been sitting in his room from the holidays – without reading! Come on! You are the best teacher for your child. You are the best model for your child. You know your child loves, loves, loves the time spent focusing on just him! And for older children (elementary school age) – are probably in the chapter books, and selections these days are terrible! I've never been in the reading selections from my son as I was last year. And then there are teenagers! Find books about what they like now. (For us that is the pool, basketball and World Series of Poker.) Your local library can provide a lot of books to choose from for all ages of children.
* Problem Solvers of America stand up and be recognized! Yes! Your children need your creative genius to start and keep the mind active mathematics during the summer months. You can do this. At restaurants use the menu as a mini math lesson, ask them what the estimate total bill would do to calculate the tip on the basis of 15% and 20%, time to review your order and have the time for children preparing food. You understand! Use your car time to solve math problems – mental calculation is something that our generation of children being lost to the calculators cell phone, math / science calculators and more. Once back in the house cooking time use of fractions, measurement, and the lessons of time (Sssshhh! Lesson not to mention the word please!) If you give you get the benefit of children involved in the total value of their contributions around the house and their designation for money.
* Mindless Couch Potatoes Beware! You are the father! It is necessary to limit television time, computer time, the Nintendo DS, Game Cube, Game Boy, Game Player, Game Watcher, Gobble Game-Su-Child-mind-machine now, today, now, quick! It's so hard. I'm not a saint, not mom poster for it, but I know how important it is. We all read the studies, and hear reports on the adverse effects of multi-media entertainment for children (and be attributed to the violent nature, the amount of time involved, over-stimulation, the constant bombardment of the media hype). All we know is in the best interest of our children to monitor what is happening in their brains through these devices. So try to get their children well balanced in its time outdoors, reading time, quiet / down time and family life in general.
Make summers working for you and more importantly, for your child!
Turn your vacation into a classroom of children without knowing sneak into the local museum or the zoo or a couple of hours. Player using Portable DVD edutaining some DVDs (local libraries are ideal for rental). Travel to a place none of you were and what some research very well together the incorporation of map skills, scientific skills for the time / weather of the destination and language skills by learning new languages specific to that area.
